It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
