According to new allegations from a informant, the convicted associate of Jeffrey Epstein, currently serving a two-decade sentence for trafficking offenses, is reportedly preparing a clemency request for consideration by the Trump administration.
Congressional Democrats on the House judiciary committee revealed that a source provided information indicating the inmate is preparing the commutation application. Additionally, they mentioned she has been given preferential conditions at the federal prison camp in the Lone Star State.
Congressman Jamie Raskin, the ranking member on the House judiciary committee, stated in a news release that the facility's chief was assisting the convict with document preparation and submission to aid her effort for executive mercy.
Specific details of the clemency request are unclear, the congressman noted.
The representative claims that, according to the whistleblower, the prisoner has been given specially prepared food that are “personally delivered” to her cell, and the supervisor has individually organized private meetings for her and her guests.
These meetings reportedly involve a designated private space for visitors and a variety of food and drinks for her associates.
Those visiting Maxwell were also reportedly permitted to carry electronic devices, which Raskin described as an “unprecedented action” given the potential danger and potential for unsupervised contact.
Reportedly on one occasion, when communications failed for other prisoners, she was given specific instructions about who she should tell her associates to contact and how staff would connect the communication to her.
The whistleblower further reportedly told House Democrats that when the convict wanted to examine and modify papers “quickly”, she reportedly employed the official as her private aide.
The statement indicates that Maxwell’s correspondents would send files directly to the warden, who would hand them over to Maxwell, who would review and edit them and provide them back to the official to scan and provide to the initial correspondent.
Other privileges reportedly provided to Maxwell include opportunities to interact with a trainee assistance dog – a benefit typically prohibited – as well as private after-hours access to the prison exercise area.
Her legal counsel has not yet replied to a inquiry regarding the insider's allegations.
In a statement, the presidential office said that it “does not comment” on potential clemency requests.
“Per the President's remarks, pardoning the convict is not something he has considered,” the representative noted.
Recently, reports surfaced that Maxwell told close associates in electronic messages that she was more content at the new prison than her previous prison.
In August, Maxwell was transferred from a low-security prison in Florida's capital to the less restrictive prison in the state, where most inmates are serving time for financial and non-violent crimes.
This move, which experts described as exceptional, occurred just days after she was questioned about the Jeffrey Epstein investigation by the deputy attorney general, Todd Blanche, who also previously served as the President's personal lawyer.
This questioning came as the Trump administration was facing increasing scrutiny to release more documents related to the Epstein investigation and amid widespread conjecture around the President's own connections to the fallen billionaire and adjudicated criminal, who was found dead in a New York jail in that year while facing trial on trafficking accusations.
In the news release, the congressman also announced that he had dispatched a communication to the President, demanding answers about the whistleblower’s allegations, and urged the president to deny the clemency appeal.
“You should not grant any form of clemency to this adjudicated and remorseless sex offender,” Raskin wrote in the letter. “The government must not offer her with room service, with puppies to play with, with government agents attending to her requests, or with any preferential handling or facility benefit at all.”
The congressman asked that Blanche attend a public congressional hearing to discuss the revelations and also presented several inquiries to the President.
Raskin asked whether Trump had talked about a possible clemency for Maxwell with the official or others, whether he had instructed Blanche or anyone else to provide Maxwell with the move or favorable and preferential treatment in prison, and whether Maxwell, her attorneys, relatives or representatives have made any commitments to Trump or his attorneys.
The representative requested for a response to the inquiries by the specified date.
Last month, the US supreme court declined to hear an petition from the convict on her sex-trafficking conviction.
